BNS September Meeting: Is the History of Humankind Climate-Controlled?

September 19, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The regular monthly meeting of the Blomidon Naturalists Society will be held at 7:30 PM on Monday, September 19 in Room BAC241 of the Beveridge Arts Centre, Acadia University, Wolfville.

The main presentation will be:

Is the History of  Humankind Climate-Controlled? by Dr. Rob Raeside of Acadia University.

In a time when we are seeing the effects of climate change on society, it is instructive to consider how climate has changed the destiny of our ancestors over the past million or more years.  Examples from human evolution, the spread of the Sahara, early flood legends, early American civilizations, and the Vikings demonstrate the effects of climate change, and hint at human causes in some cases.  Lessons from history show how weather and climate dynamics have affected anything from bread and wine production in the Little Ice Age to the US space program.

The meeting is open to the public.
