Regular January Meeting: Climate Change and Nova Scotia

January 21 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Dealing with Climate Change in Nova Scotia”

Dr. Graham Daborn

In spite of some political rhetoric, the scientific consensus is that over the next decades the planet will continue to become warmer, presenting huge challenges for all species – including humans. Nova Scotia may be spared some of the immediate effects of atmospheric warming, but cannot avoid both direct and indirect effects: sea level rise, increased storm frequency, changes in precipitation patterns, invasive species, global agricultural influences, and possible collapse of the North Atlantic portion of the ocean conveyor belt. The smart money is on those human communities that prepare to adapt to future conditions.
