People are occupying forest land and last week was bat week. Perhaps exacerbated by the US election, and that I watched David Attenborough's new documentary as per Soren's recent suggestion, I have been feeling very motivated to learn and take action. Here are a few news pieces I have found valuable, a compelling workshop and, if you are interested in the world of bugs, an opportunity to join like-minded enthusiasts. Nature Nova Scotia published a video calling on nature lovers to use your voice to protect our endangered species. There has been no action since the successful Species at Risk Lawsuit, which BNS took part in. See the video with instructions on how to take action here: https://twitter.com/NNS_NatureNS/status/1323595339442651137?s=20 ________________________________________________________________ Furthermore, this recent CBC article discusses the current status of Owl's Head provincial park. The true value of this land lies in its ecological integrity, not in the profits of a potential golf course that poses its own financial challenges: > "Jamie Simpson, the lawyer for the parties suing over the decision to > delist the property, noted the value [of the land] is based on what the > report determined to be the "highest and best use" for the land: > conservation and recreational purposes." https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/owls-head-park-golf-course-development-environment-court-1.5786651?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar&fbclid=IwAR2iREYbVdKxgDhwxIBjP2frkQfKZJmut_kIPlgF0TVTXnwRKU9tfS6MWRo ________________________________________________________________ The New York Times published their latest interview with Greta Thunberg. I'm constantly impressed by her intuition: > "I didn?t stop flying or become vegan because I wanted to reduce my > personal carbon footprint. But it?s all about sending > a signal that we are in a crisis and that in a crisis you change behavior. > If no one breaks this chain of ?I won?t do this, because no one else is > doing anything? and ?Look at them. They?re doing much worse than I am? ? if > everyone keeps on going like that, then no one will change. We won?t > understand that we are in a crisis. If people don?t understand that we are > in a crisis, they won?t put pressure on people in power. For some time it has been possible to donate to the BNS via PayPal. We changed that to CanadaHelps since diners receive an immediate tax receipt. We will let you know as soon as possible which direction we go regarding membership or not. It is probably best to wait with either donations or paying membership until you hear from the Board. Thank you to everyone who has already submitted feedback. We are compiling all your comments but also invite you to please complete this survey. The survey contains specific questions on the issues raised, as well as space to submit any general comments or ideas you may have about BNS. The whole survey should only take about 5-10 minutes. See write-up below poster Copied from https://www.facebook.com/robertsonsfarmandapothecary Tomorrow is the first day opening of our Holiday Shop. (Hi to those who stopped by a day early. You're eagerness is encouraging). A few items I'd like to address for tomorrow. We will be adhering to covid regulations inside our store. We will require that everyone wears a mask, sanitizes before entering, writes their contact information before shopping and sanitizes throughout the store when touching products. There will be a bathroom for handwashing too. We will have a maximum of 8 customers in the store at any one time. Therefore we will have outside seating set up to hang around while you wait. Please respect social distancing at all times inside and outside the store. I know many have shown interest in coming tomorrow, but please remember we are open for 4 weekends with vendors replenishing their products throughout. The reason we had spread the shopping dates was to limit the number of people on any one day. That being said, we will endeavour to accommodate everyone, but if there is too much traffic outside, there will be a sign up to ask you to park midway on the driveway and allow one car out before you enter. Yes we do have a large property, but we also want to look after people who are here and help them navigate the safest way in and out of the store. We ask that you come to shop and support local, but understand this is not a family event and farm tour. We will of course save that for a time when we can all be together in a relaxed setting. Happy weekend everyone. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
