[BNS_members] September Regular BNS Meeting: Mon. Sept. 21 @ 7:30 PM: Mars 2020

The regular BNS monthly meeting will take place at 7:30 PM on Monday, September 21 using Zoom.

The main presentation will be:

Mars 2020

by Patrick Kelly

Every two years (and a bit), Mars gets really close to Earth, becoming one of the brightest objects in the night sky. Learn why this happens and why astronomers look forward to these events. You will also learn how to find Mars (which will be quite easy given how bright it will be), and what we know about the Red Planet after more than a century of studying it both from Earth and from sending spacecraft there.

Patrick Kelly is a life member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and has been a member of the Halifax Centre of the Society since 1981. He has taught first-year astronomy at four Nova Scotia universities, and was a frequent presenter at the Halifax Planetarium prior to the pandemic.

Below you will find a link. It will take you directly to the meeting. If you can only attend by phone, the second link will give you a listing of Canadian phone numbers that you can call, but I believe the closest one is in Quebec, so long-distance charges will apply.

I will start the meeting at 7:00 PM so that we can get set up but the meeting itself does not start until 7:30 PM.

As before, participents will come in with their audio muted.
