[BNS_members] Happy Earth Day and City Nature Challenge

Hello everyone,

I wanted to send a quick message to say, happy Earth Day! I like to think, much like Mother's Day and Black History Month, that everyday should be Earth Day. However, today is a great reminder to pause and reflect on what an appreciation and understanding of our planet means to you.

To me, Earth Day is a reminder to prioritize getting outside. My apartment building is getting together for a litter clean up of our neighbourhood this evening which I'm looking forward to. Are you able to celebrate Earth Day today? Be it a moment to reflect, a walk or a cleanup, small actions build up to create a connection to nature around you.

Also, I'm very excited about the upcoming City Nature Challenge and invite you all to take part! This is a global bioblitz to encourage people to get outside and take as many observations of nature as possible, between April 30th and May 3rd. All you have to do is join at iNaturalist.org (https://blomidonnaturalists.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0dbe0d10c2ef002331c94c4f9&id=cfe9216367&e=b24cf58224) or download the app, and take observations during this period. The Annapolis Valley and Kings County region is registered and your observations will automatically be added to the initiative (no need to join a specific project).

One data challenge from Sheffield Mills is to look for as many eagles as possible. How many can you spot? And no, rare or uncommon observations are not absolutely necessary. It is important to capture the ants, coltsfoot flowers and clovers in your backyard as well.
