 Hello BNS Board and Members,

I'm sending this message with permission from the BNS Board President Soren
Bondrup-Nielsen.

Like many of you I imagine, the heat waves and forest fires in the West
recently have made/re-made climate change devastatingly real for us. So,
Alan Warner, Alison Stuart, and I and many others are working to get our
voices heard in a local way in Wolfville tomorrow, Thursday, July 29 as
part of the Canada on Fire Day of Action through 350.org (
https://act.350.org/event/on-fire-doa/). *We are meeting at Kody Blois's
office at 11:30 am (**24 Harbourside Drive near Waterfront Park*). The aim
is to put climate change on the federal and provincial election agendas via
meeting outside MP constituency offices with a request to commit to two
items of climate action:

   1. An immediate moratorium on new fossil fuel approvals and a freeze on
all fossil fuel expansion projects under construction -- including the
   Trans Mountain pipeline.
   2. Just Transition legislation to support workers and communities,
especially Indigenous and remote communities as we move towards a 100%
   renewable energy future.

We are hoping to have a respectful, informed, short conversation with Kody
Blois with SO MANY people there. We are inviting our local candidates in
the provincial election as well for the conversation. We are also hoping
that some folks will bring musical instruments and share a song that is
meaningful to the event. We need to show that *climate action is a top
political concern that requires urgent and consistent action.* It will not
be long (no more than an hour), but this is an urgent issue!

We sure hope to see you there, and please, please forward this to your
networks so that it radiates out and it becomes a large and diverse group
of people.

If you can't attend, but support the message, please consider registering
your support by emailing our MP Kody Blois at Kody.Blois at parl.gc.ca with
the message about urgent climate action via the moratorium and the Just
Transition Act.

If you are not sure about the moratorium, please consider these items:

   - Canada provides almost ten times as much subsidy support to fossil
fuel companies per capita than the United States (from this Financial
   Post article
   <https://financialpost.com/commodities/energy/the-worlds-biggest-governments-are-still-propping-up-fossil-fuels>
on which countries are still providing fossil fuel subsidies, from a lens
of which countries are still making a poor financial investment)
   - The International Energy Agency in May this year stated in a drastic
position-changing report that all remaining fossil fuels need to stay in
the ground for a livable future, which explains the Financial Post
article's tone. Read more from Bill McKibben in the New Yorker here

Thank you for considering offering your support!
