Looking at Nature Through the Lens of Evolution – Full Day Course

October 31 @ 10:00 - 16:00
$50

What better time to explore evolution than Halloween, a time when we encounter some strange creatures, unusual adaptations and mysterious connections between species?

This day course will use a combination of indoor and outdoor activities to explore the basics of evolution, natural and artificial selection and phylogenetics. We will look at how species change over time, why particular traits persist, and how we can use evidence to understand relationships among species. The Halloween theme will bring some fun to learning about phylogenetics (the relationships between taxa) while keeping the focus on the science behind evolutionary change. . There will also be time to explore questions you have about evolution, from how the process works to the fascinating traits found in species you’re curious about.

Whether evolution is something you teach, something you’ve always wondered about, or simply a topic you’d like to understand better, come prepared to explore, ask questions, and see evolution in some new ways. Bring your curiosity, and perhaps your appreciation for the strange and surprising ways life has evolved, and spend Halloween exploring the science behind the diversity of life.
