Trail Magic – Lorax Woodlands

This is a walking series for women and girls+ 9 years and older to discover the wonder, joy, and connection of the outdoors.
The guided walks are geared to beginners; however, a base level of fitness is required. Participants should be able to walk consistently for two hours at a comfortable pace on uneven ground.
Preregistration is required for this series and you can register anytime. By registering, you are not committing to participate in all of the walks. An email with details of the location will be sent out 6 days prior to each hike – please RSVP if you plan to join. Everyone who has RSVPed before each hike will receive a reminder email that may contain updates.
Today’s hike will be in the Lorax Woodlands Guided Walk with Carolyn Green. Lorax Woodlands is a small co-housing community on the South Mountain which collectively owns 200 acres of mostly woodland. Over the years, the group has developed a myriad of trails which showcases the recovering Acadia forest. We will hike up Bentley Brook to the former Bentley meadows, now a beaver-dammed lake maintained by an active beaver colony. We will follow the trail alongside the lake and thenreturn via a different set of trails. The trails are not difficult, but are typical narrow woodland trails, sometimes with roots or rocks so good footwear is recommended. People who participated in the Magic Trail ski here last winter might enjoy seeing the same trails in the summer.
