A Brief History

The Society is organized under the Society’s Act of Nova Scotia and began in March 1974. Since then it has grown in membership to about 250 individual and family memberships. The Society organization is directed by an executive plus directors. The BNS is a registered charity and has applied for conservation easment status with the province of Nova Scotia. Membership is open to any interested person.

The primary objective of the Society is to encourage and develop understanding and appreciation of nature in its members and the interested public. The word ‘nature’ is interpreted broadly and includes rocks, plants, animals, water, air, and stars.

The Society meets monthly at 7:30 pm in the evening on the third Monday of the Month (except in December when the meeting is on the second Monday and in July and August when there are no meetings). The usual meeting place is at Acadia University in the Irving Environmental Centre or the Beveridge Arts Centre (see Events for location).

Field Trips

Field Trips are scheduled throughout the year usually on the weekends.
See Events for specific dates and time.

You will have a password with which you can manage how you wish to receive your email notices. (Note: it is not necessary to manage your account if you do not like doing such things. Just do nothing and you will get the BNS notices) . This server is monitored and only select members have the rights to send to this list so you will not be getting a lot of email from it.
