Sharing Nature Together Photo Exhibition

Please head out and take photos in nature this summer, then contribute a favourite one from this region to share with others at our photo exhibition. You can also enter photos from other seasons. The first 40 in by July 1 get a free 8 x 10 inch colour print.
We often pull out our phones to share a beautiful, cool, intriguing or thought-provoking photo with a friend that we took recently. The Blomidon Naturalists are hoping you will contribute that photo so that it can help many others appreciate this spectacular region.

What Happens to the Photos?
A wide range of the photo submissions (approximately 50) will be selected to display at our Sharing Nature Together Photo Expo at the Benjamin Bridge Winery on November 9th. Other photos will be shared in the Digital Carousel of Local Nature at the exhibition. Photos will also be shared and credited through the BNS E-newsletter, Facebook page, and magazine. The first 40 contributors, as well as those printed for the exhibition, receive a free 8 by 10-inch colour print of their photo. Anyone can purchase a beautifully mounted 12 by 18-inch colour print of an image.
So, what are you waiting for? Anyone from 5 to 95 can enter their photo and you don’t need a fancy camera— there is a category just for smart phones. Send along your favourite Nova Scotia nature photo you have taken, or better yet head outside and take a new favourite to share. Maybe it is a spectacular sunset, a beautiful wildflower, kids running down a scenic trail, ice swirls on a stream, waves lapping on a beach— anything goes. This is also a great family activity as there will be youth (under 18 years) and adult categories. Everyone can enter. You’ll be sharing your appreciation of nature broadly and supporting the work of the Blomidon Naturalists. Do it soon and you can receive the colour print.
Submission Criteria
• Each person can enter a maximum of two photos, but only one can be selected for the exhibition. There will be separate selection processes for youth (under 18), adults and smart phone versus other camera photos.
• The photo must focus on non-human nature, but people are indeed welcome, though they should be a lessor element for what is a nature photo.
• The photo can be in any season but must have been taken in Nova Scotia with preference for photos from the Valley Region (West Hants, Kings, or Annapolis Counties).
• If you include people who are identifiable, you must have their permission before entering the photo.
• Photos should be of good resolution to enable 8 by 10-inch printing at approximately 300 dpi. They should be in the range of 1 to 5 mb in file size. If a photo is of insufficient quality, we will send a note back indicating that and allow you another submission.
• You must indicate that you took the photo and that you own the rights to the photo. The photo must not have been selected for other photo exhibitions/contests or recognized for awards by other organizations.
• You must agree to the Blomidon Naturalists Society (the BNS) using the photo in any of its print or on-line materials and social media accounts. The BNS will not share the photo for use with any other person or organization unless we receive explicit permission from you separate from this submission. Photos will be held by BNS on an ongoing basis unless you request its return after January 2026. Recognize that although BNS will not share the photo for use by others, it is impossible to control others from sharing social media posts.
• If someone purchases a 12 by 18 print of your photo from the BNS, you will receive a $30 tax donation receipt from the BNS in lieu of a commission for taking the photo.
• The photo must not have text or other elements/watermarks added to it.
To be eligible for the free print, you must submit the photo by July 1, 2025. Final deadline for submissions is September 1, 2025.
Thanks to Benjamin Bridge Winery as a co-sponsor of the photo exhibition.
