The Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute is hosting a Sit Back Seminar this
Thursday (Nov. 26) at 7 pm to learn about the cultural and ecological
impacts of invasive insects in Mi’kma’ki. "Invasive species don't usually
look threatening but their impact can be devastating and they can be
difficult to stop. This month our seminar will look at two new arrivals to
Nova Scotia: Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and Emerald Ash Borer. We will also
discuss black ash, its link with the Mi'kmaq and the management techniques
trying to rein in these two invaders. Join us via zoom with the information
listed below:"

The St. Margarets Bay Stewardship Association (SMBSA) has been trying to
preserve the Ingrim River as a wilderness area since 2012. The area is home
to over 20 species at risk including mainland moose, olive-sided
flycatcher, snapping turtle, boreal felt lichen, Canada warbler, and rusty
blackbird, to name but a few. The government has created a survey seeking
public input on land use. This is an opportunity to voice your opinion. The
survey is open until this Thursday, November 26.
Here is the survey:

Wilderness Area: https://www.protecttheingram.com/

*News*
I appreciated reading about an owl that survived a long journey to
eventually be found in the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. It's a nice reminder
of the resiliency of nature:

The Guardian also published a story about seeing birds in odd places.
Swallows have been found to migrate south later in fall and arrive in the
UK earlier in spring than in previous years:

If you know of any events or news stories the membership may be interested,
feel free to pass it along.

All the best,
Riley
