Good morning on this wet and windy day,

This upcoming Monday, FEBRUARY 21ST IN OUR MONTHLY MEETING AT 7:30 PM ON
ZOOM.

Our presenter this month is Mike Gill, Director of the Biodiversity
Indicators Program for NatureServe (www.natureserve.org [1]). Mike will
be giving a talk entitled "BENDING THE CURVE OF BIODIVERSITY LOSS: THE
POST-2020 GLOBAL BIODIVERSITY FRAMEWORK." Mike will reflect on the need
for enhanced efforts to address the fundamental drivers of biodiversity
loss. This will include reflection on the failures to date of global
multi-lateral environmental agreements (particularly the Aichi
Biodiversity Targets), the current negotiations of the post-2020 Global
Biodiversity Framework and what is needed to move the needle on
biodiversity conservation.

I think this will be great to think about the big picture of global
conservation policy and frameworks, as we continue to explore all facets
of biodiversity, big and small, local and global!

Blomidon Naturalists Society activities take place in Mi'kma'ki, the
traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People. This
territory is covered by the "Treaties of Peace and Friendship" which did
not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but in fact
recognized Mi'kmaw title. We want to recognize that outdoor education
and play would not be possible without access to the natural world that
has been stewarded since time immemorial by the many Indigenous peoples
of this land. We acknowledge that we have a responsibility to honour and
learn about their histories and current cultures and to actively work in
support of reconciliation. We are committed to fostering respectful and
sustainable relationships with the Indigenous Peoples of this land, with
all other organisms, with the land and with the water.
