2024 BNS Natural History Calendar

Photo submissions are invited for possible use in the 28th edition of the
Blomidon Naturalists Society's Natural History Calendar. Submissions should
be in electronic form: JPEG format, with file size between 500 kB and 3 MB.

Photos should be of natural history interest, preferably taken in Nova
Scotia. Please submit no more than ten (10) images. The deadline for
submissions is *Friday, September 8, 2023.*

Suitability involves technical quality (sharp focus, not under- or
over-exposed), composition (object of interest nicely positioned, no
distracting background), and content (a photo that calendar users will
enjoy looking at for a month). The committee tries to match images to the
months, so pictures from "not summer" are appreciated! The committee tries
not to reuse subjects which have appeared in the past several years of
calendars. To that end, here is a listing of the subjects used in the
calendars from 2020 to 2023:

2020: Hooded Merganser, Coastal Ice, Star-tipped Reindeer Lichen, Seals,
Garter Snake, Red Trillium, Wilson's Snipe, Black-and-White Warbler, Luna
Moth, Rattlesnake Plantain, Semi-palmated Sandpiper, Veinless Freckle-pelt
Lichen, Northern Harrier.

2021: White-breasted Nuthatch, Great Horned Owl, Purple Sandpiper, Honey
Bees, Freshwater Mussel, Frog, Blackburnian Warbler, Hummingbird Moth,
Hudsonian Godwit, Ghost Pipes, Wharf and Salt Marsh, Pear-shaped Puffballs,
Pileated Woodpecker.

2022: Yellowlegs, Varying Hare, Eastern Coyote, Spring-beauty, Common
Grackle, Red-winged Blackbird, Red Fox, Common Tern, Summer Milky Way,
Choke Cherries, Black Bear, Short-eared Owl, Rising Moon.

2023: Northern Mockingbird, Leucistic Robin, Moon Snail, Sora, Saw-whet
Owl, Yellow Lady’s Slipper, Tree Swallow, Blue Flag Iris, Crane Fly,
Dragonfly, Bullfrog, Turkey Vultures, Christmas Anemone.
