[BNS_members] Help the Province Understand the need for Protected Areas now!

Hi All

> The BNS presentation to County Council today advocating for the new protected area in Kings County was well received. We will be sending around an info sheet on it within a couple of weeks. Thank you to those who were able to join us!
> On a similar theme, everyone can contribute to this work from home in that the the NS Department of Environment and Climate Change has issued a call for public input on how they should plan a strategy for getting from the current 13% of protected areas in the province to 20% by 2030, a goal which is enshrined in legislation.

> Progress has been slow in making this happen but the consultation has now arrived as a simple 6 question survey which must be completed on-line (10-20 minutes of your time) by October 6, 2023. Below is detailed information provided by Nina Newington on her response to the questions. Nina is a member of the BNS Protected Areas Committee and a leader in the Save Our Old Forests campaign. She has a wealth of knowledge on the topic from a biodiversity and ecological forestry perspective. We are providing this simply as background when you complete the questionnaire. Please only use it as you see fit and it is preferable to put things in your own words with your own reflections. These are Nina’s perspectives.
